OUR STORY

The story of CSF Industries and its subsidiary divisions is one of organic growth, built on a firm business foundation and a continued commitment to adding value at all times.

The story of CSF Industries and its subsidiary divisions is one of organic growth, built on a firm business foundation and a continued commitment to adding value at all times.
First established in 1979 as Cairns Steel Fabricators, and now boasting fully integrated divisions offering steel fabrication, roofing services, coating and finishes, engineering, lifting and transport and logistics, CSF Industries holds a unique position in the construction and fabrication industry in Northern Australia in terms of size, experience and expertise.

A recognised industry leader, CSF Industries has consistently demonstrated not only their commitment to their clients but also to the growth of the industry through their innovative thinking, the championing of new technology and their continued desire to deliver the best service possible.

It is this commitment to service that has fuelled the growth of the now independent divisions.

From very early on in CSF’s history, founding Director Mel Yelaska could see that more was possible. The days of delivering domestic steel production from the back of a ute were short lived, and within 10 years from foundation, CSF Steel Fabricators had moved into commercial production and was delivering contracts such as the Lavarack Barracks in Townsville – a $10m contract back in 1988.

The first signs of organic growth came in 1995 with the foundation of Cairns Steel Constructions Pty Ltd (now Century Cranes T/A Cairns Steel Constructions). What began, at the time, as simply a solution to the increasing cost of crane hire, quickly became one of the region’s foremost construction businesses.

With the establishment of their own crane operation, CSF was able to deliver bigger and better projects with more efficiency and value for money, before expanding further to hire crane services independently of production.

Despite this rapid growth, CSF Steel Fabrication’s foundation was always built upon family values, and the group of companies continues to operate on this premise today. With our head office based in Cairns, CSF continues to be a significant employer in the North Queensland region and the values of CSF are clear for all to see.

These family values were further demonstrated in 2004 when Mel’s son in law, Sean Adams, a certified Engineer, joined the business and CSF remains firmly and proudly a local, family owned and operated company.

Sean’s enthusiasm and vision, coupled with a commitment to questioning the best delivery mechanisms for everything they did, saw the business reinventing itself in terms of policies, processes and procedures and expanding in terms of service delivery. In the same way as Mel had realised back in 1995 that he could add value to his clients by controlling his own lifting requirements, Sean and the team sought ways to add value to their well established steel fabrication processes.

The result of this value adding has seen CSF expand even further with the creation of the CSF divisions, Intrans Logistics and the acquisition of Townsville based Thomas Steel Fabrications in 2018. CSF Industries has cemented it position in the North Queensland landscape and constantly look at ways to improve the community that they operate in, staff they employ and the clients they service.

The group of companies now service clients right across Australia as well as into Papua New Guinea and Indonesia.

OUR DIFFERENCE

CSF Industries, through its six divisions, operates a turn-key operation meaning entire projects can be conducted seemlessly by the one entity.

This ability to manage and control the entire production, delivery and installation process ensures both time and cost efficiencies for our clients as well as a high quality standard of all goods produced. This, combined with a ‘hands on’ management team and a Director available on-site every day, ensures a high level of responsiveness to necessary decision- making and overall management of the project.

With a team of highly skilled staff including qualified Structural Engineers and in-house Internationally Certified Welding Specialists and Supervisors, CSF is able to offer its clients premium solutions, eliminating the need to outsource these functions or engage a subcontractor.

CSF Industries’ divisions operate from an impressive 8,600m² modern facility situated on 210,00m² land within the Cairns Port Industrial area, with access to all possible transport requirements including road, rail, air and sea.

CSF regularly extends outside of its original scope of works to ensure projects are delivered successfully, on time whilst maintaining premium quality.

Each of our divisions has a high proportion of long standing, repeat customers such as Hansen Yuncken, John Holland, Laing O’Rourke, Lend Lease, and CPB Contractors and add Watpac.

CSF divisions have consistently completed all projects and contracts in the history of the company within scope, budget and timeframes and with minimal non-conformances and safety incidents demonstrates the effectiveness of CSF’s risk management system.

CSF has invested in the latest automated steel processing machinery. We have full control over the production of cleats, fittings and all beam processing requirements. This in combination with the expansive size of the facility means CSF’s manufacturing capacity is significantly high with an average output of 130 tonnes of large steel per week. The business operates a state of the art blast & painting facility, and also its own detailing office which currently has six full time detailers all using Tekla 3D software.

CSF holds the following accreditations: ISO9001 Accredited; Department of Main Roads Approved Fabricator; Steelwork Compliance Australia – Construction Category Level 3; Member of Australian Steel Institute; Member of Master Builders Queensland; and Return to Work Awards 2010 Finalist.

CSF has a constant focus on safety and safety leadership. We firmly believe that safety is directly related to staff culture and our focus is, and always will be, on the health and wellbeing of our staff.
